Chapter: Gimme More

What do we gain from material wealth? When we're down, some new shoes make us feel better? Last time I checked, shoes don't give hugs. I don't understand or find the necessity to constantly fuel our self esteem with inanimate objects. Sure, it may boost your self esteem because you look good according to others, but whens the last time someones complimented you on being a great person. Call me cliche, but I have a point. We shouldn't depend on others to compliment us on our looks to feel confident. The confidence should spring from our souls, to then be projected on our external appearance to the world, if it matters that much. Maybe some shoes would put the cherry on top, but ice cream is still good without the mess of accessory ingredients, am I wrong? What's the point of having an abundance of material things, when in the end, they stay here, and we move on. Is it worth it?

BUT, to each his own.

..and yes, those are barbie's shoes.

  1. Coming from an avid shoe collectors perspective, its well worth it q^_^p ... obviously not everyone collects to "fuel their self esteem with inanimate objects". Many people people have many different reasons for collecting. Some may consider it a hobby others may find it trivial and useless, but the act of collecting is something that has been practiced by the human race for centuries, wait, as long as we've existed actually ... the egyptians collected books from all over the world in order to enrich their culture, today that's called a library, art appreciators have collected paintings for centuries and are in a sense an evolution of what we call museums today, Cavemen collected wood and foliage to fuel their fires, the list goes on ... :) ... people have different intents and goals for collecting stuff, some may do it just for the pleasure of owning, some to fill a void (maybe they wanted that wolverine action figure back in the 70s and their parents couldn't afford it and now that they're successful, feel the need to hunt down and purchase the whole collection from that era), some collect in order to secure a future financial gain ... i know, when people ask me, why do you have so many shoes? i just say "why not". People collect all sorts of things, bottle caps, coins, trading cards, pogs, beanie babies, i happen to collect shoes... i enjoy collecting them, they appeal to me artistically and visually, and they sure as hell don't take away from the fact that i'm a confident person (i would look just as good in "chanclas" or pink fuzzy slippers lol) ... on top of that what some may not know is that shoes (special edition or rare ones in particular) increase in value substantially after only a few months of release date, sometimes weeks or even days ... so just imagine getting a pair of shoes for 100 dollars and 2 months later selling it for 200 or more, thats pretty impressive (in a business aspect) ... all and all you're right, to each his/her own, i personally don't find collecting beanie babies appealing but hey, who am i to judge ... lets consider for a second that thoughts are inanimate objects, than what's blogging ? ............ something to think about :)
